As the title suggests, the concert collection One Night Only captures the brothers in action, serving as a compendium of some of their greatest hits--"Stayin' Alive," "Night Fever," "More Than a Woman," "I Started a Joke"--fleshed out with Gibb-penned songs successfully recorded by others. Hence, the inclusion of "I Can't See Nobody" (recorded by Nina Simone , among others), " Guilty " (Barbra Streisand), and the Dolly Parton-Kenny Rogers classic " Islands in the Stream ." Recorded in 1997, One Night Only shows the brothers' age somewhat, especially in Barry's falsetto, which sounds tinny and forced. A classic hits like MASSACHUSETTS, WORDS, TO LOVE SOMEBODY, STAYIN' ALIVE and their other 20 hit songs, performed just like their original recordings 30 years ago! No degradation with their ages here! Beautiful songs, romantic lyrics, excellent voices and harmonies! Full spectrum on the synthesized orchestral accompaniment! Excellent!! In my opinion only three pop bands that really are true legendary, they are the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Bee Gees, considering their many #1 hits, their worldwide popularity and their presence for more than 40 years in pop music! I also have the video to this live concert & the chemistry between the brothers is as electrifying on CD as it is to see. An exceptional performance on Robin Gibb's part for "I Started A Joke"--the man is extraordinary...sounds almost as good as the original recording. Maurice Gibb provides great musical accompaniment & background vocals as well as doing one of his own...he's my fav! What can one say about Barry Gibb's extraordinary range within the vocal spectrum...he never ceases to amaze me..."Words" has always been my favorite Bee Gees song...never done better than live on stage with his brothers backup. I love all styles of music (jazz, rock, alternative, blues), however, I profoundly connect to groups that can blend their voices in harmony (Bee Gees, CSN, Eagles, Beatles). When one of the voices in silenced, it is a profound loss. A critic mentioned that the Bee Gees achieved an even deeper level of harmony - a level only achieved through a family connection - I believe it. Have been wearing out Bee Gee CD's. This CD is a beautifully produced, lively celebration of some great music (I also have the DVD video). I'm thankful the world woke up in the past few years and recognized the talents of these three.
